Pamela Baker Park is a collaborative design effort between the Dennis M. Baker Foundation and City of Eagle to create a usable outdoor space that provides public education about native ecological habitats for a variety of pollinators inhabiting the Treasure Valley in honor of the late Pamela Baker. The intent is to provide unique, outdoor spaces that can be utilized by people of all ages while remaining respectful of the wildlife in the region by way of dedicated passive, active, and pedestrian-restricted spaces throughout the site. Protection of native species and ecologically sensitive areas was of the utmost concern for the project during the initial conceptual phase of design, evolving into the preservation of existing wetland spaces along the existing man made ponds and proposed improvements to increase bank stabilization and water clarity. Outdoor rooms are created through the use of landforms and interior pathways that guide users through the site with associated interpretive signage. A children’s play area, outdoor amphitheater, walking paths and greenbelt access provide mixed recreational uses for increased flexibility. Initial phases of construction are to include earthwork, irrigation installation, and hydroseeding to protect soils during future construction phases.
Project scope included: coordination with the Dennis M. Baker Foundation and City of Eagle Parks and Recreation Department for design goals and site programming, site inventory and analysis to identify site opportunities and constraints as well as existing infrastructure to remain or be improved, assessment of community demographics and current uses by visitors, conceptual and final design of multi-phased installation and associated cost estimates, facilitating coordination between Precision Pumping Systems and Alpha Omega Engineering for pressure irrigation pump design and bidding.
Final deliverables were a complete construction document package that included: detailed landscape and irrigation construction documentation provided for each phase of development, construction phasing, contractor acquisition and construction administration, and cost estimating through the design process.
